From the Nursery to the Vineyard

The day has finally arrived, after many months of planning and preparation we have begun planting our new vineyards. Within two weeks we will have planted some 300 dunam (30 hectares) of new vines.
Today
begins a race against the clock to plant all the vines before our cut
off date of 5th August 2009 corresponding to the Jewish date of Tu B’Av
(see the previous post for a fuller explanation). The vineyards will be ready for their first harvest in the summer of 2012.

Nachum checking the vines
Despite tremendous efforts by the nursery we work with, the supply of all the vines will be pushed to the very limit and probably the very last minute. Our vineyard manager, Nachum Naveh, hasn’t slept much in the past few weeks, he has been running the project since its inception and is responsible for getting it to run to schedule. I think he is a little worried that the work won’t be completed on time but, I am confident that he will complete the job with time to spare. I just want to take the opportunity to thank him for all the tremendous work he has done over the past year.
Here are the pictures taken this morning of our site in Even Menachem. After so much planning, strategising, debating, correcting, consulting, preparing, grading, digging, flattening, and anything else you can think of, it is certainly exciting to see the project finally come together.

Alex,
You surely have the best internet presence of any winery in Israel. I'm sure it serves your winery well. It's a shame more wineries aren't posting even a tenth of what your posting
