This one is going to be short, but I couldn't resist. I just came back from this morning harvest at the old vine Carignan vineyard on the Judea slopes. The harvest was very tough and it will take us three days to run through the vineyard. But it is worth it…the fruit is phenomenal. I have to pray now that I will not ruin it in the winery because nature gave us it's best. I will ferment it separately and will try to make something unique out of it.
Beside this, the 2009 harvest is picking up pace slowly…I hope that the upcoming heat spell will not harm the grapes, I will keep you posted.

Gil,
I hope you can make a straight up Carignan out of the grapes. I've been heralding Carignan as a grape that deserves more recognition and better nuturing from those who have the right old vines in their care.
If you can make a quality single varietal (with 15% play of course) there's many who would step up to promote it and you're winery hasn't had problems marketing off the radar varietals like Zinfandel and Petite Sirah.
Good Luck & I'm Excited to taste what an artist like you can do with the Wine,
David Rhodes
