Dalton’s original Alma, now apparently known as their Alma Bordeaux Blend, has been one of my all time favorites. When i first tasted it at the winery, it was almost like finding a soul mate. We briefly referred to the Alma 2008 vintage in one of our earliest israelwinetaster articles, and again on a Visit to Dalton Winery. It has a rich garnet color with aromas and tastes of dark cherries and plums and lingering dark chocolate on the palate. There is a nice combination of richness of tannins, no astringency, and a full body with a pleasant long, lingering finish. The Alma from the 2007 vintage is a Bordeaux style blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc which was aged 14 months in oak barrels. Daniel Rogov gave it a score of 90 and we give it an israelwinetaster grade of A+. The plus is because not only will we definitely would buy it again, but especially at the price of 80 shekels at the winery. This is just over $20 at the current exchange rates.
