BR Cohn Trestle Glen Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

The BR Cohn Winery was founded by Bruce Cohn, manager of the Doobie Brothers, in 1984. Bruce turned an old dairy farm that he purchased in 1974 into the current Olive Hill Estate, named after the 140-year-old French Picholine olive trees on the property. The 2008 Trestle Glen Cabernet Sauvignon is the first kosher wine produced by the winery, albeit as a limited kosher run (400 cases). The tricky part is that while the fruit is from BR Cohn’s estate in Sonoma, CA, the wine itself was actually processed at Herzog’s kosher facility in Oxnard, CA.
In the glass, the wine is dark ruby in color with resounding notes of cherry on the nose and palate, followed by plum, raspberry, spice and a hint of oak and vanilla. The wine is medium bodied with bright acidity and a satin mouthfeel. The finish is moderately long with capped by a notes of chocolate and licorice. An elegant wine packed with flavor. Enjoy!
Retasted July 12, 2011.
