A big blend from Tzuba that’s confusing, to say the least. The wine starts off as an elegant blend and quickly morphs into an out of control “fruit soaked oak” monster. Concentrated red fruit and near-sweet plums lead the attack and rapidly transition to a mouthful of cassis and mocha…and too much oak. The wine’s semi-full body provides some elegance but quickly disappears with the tannic explosion on the long finish and ensuing heat. Given the wine’s structure, it can easily age for another 3-4 years, but it will not necessarily improve: the tannins will mellow, but the oak imbalance will likely become more pronounced. If you’re looking for a big wine with plenty of oak, this one’s for you. L’Chaim!
