At the
Kosher Wine Society, we are seeing many praiseworthy kosher wines
coming to North America from vineyards in Israel and worldwide. Our aim
is to ensure that these new varieties reach new audiences and wine
lovers. We are showcasing these fabulous wines at bachlorette parties,
synagogue events, corporate events, building parties, fundraisers and
celbrations of all kinds.
August was an exciting month for
the Kosher Wine Society. We hosted two premier events highlighting and
supporting important causes.
On August 11th Glenmorangie
Distillery, Tishbi Estate Winery, Admiral imports and Godiva
collaborated with the Kosher Wine Society to sponsor a benefit for Elem
Youth in Distress in Israel. At the new Cigar Inn in New York City,
guests enjoyed 7 different scotches and 8 different wines as well as
amazing chocolates and a selection of fine cigars. Live jazz and a
Chinese auction added further highlights to the evening’s
entertainment.
On August 12th we were privileged to host “A
Taste of Israel II” in support the American Friends of Beit Issie
Shapiro, a center in Ra'anana, Israel that uses state of the art
facilities to make a difference in the lives of children with special
needs.
A Taste of Israel II was a fabulous success both from
the point of view of fundraising, and as an opportunity for elegant
enjoyment. In two fantastic apartment spaces in Union Square
(15USW.com), more than 250 participants sampled our selection of the
best wines from Israel.
Our guests tasted wines from
Israel’s five famous wine-producing regions. Among our picks from the
Negev, popular as a wine growing area from ancient times, we included
Kadesh Barnea Cabernet and Shemesh Merlot 2007. Representing the Samson
Region we served a selection of wines from the Binyamina Yogev series
and from Barkan Winery. Wines selected from the Jerusalem Hills Region
included Psagot Edom, Psagot Viognier and the Efron’s Cave Reserves
Jerusalem series. Wines from the Region of the Galilee included Dalton
Estate Fume Blanc Tabor alit Sauvignon Blanc and Tabor Galil Merlot.
From the Shomron Region our selection included Tishbi Estates Shiraz,
Cabernet, Chardonnay and Tishbi Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc.
Following on our highly successful August events, we are looking
forward to September 9th 2009, “09/09/09,” when The Kosher Wine Society
and the Soho Center for Jewish Life invite you to "New Wines for the
New Year." In anticipation of a sweet year to come, join us in Soho as
we celebrate with surprising wines, holiday foods and rich desserts.
True to the season, our wine list will introduce bright new vintages
and fresh new wines, all as yet completely new to the United States.
Our picks therefore need to be truly outstanding. So far our list
includes Silver Cloud Heavenly White, Borgo Reale Pinot Grigio 2008,
Lanzur Merlot 2008, Borgo Reale Primitivo Salento 2008, Dalton Alma
Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot 2007, Chateau Haut Mont Saint Pey 2007,
Sentieri Ebraici Del Vecchio - 100% Sangiovese, Dona Gracia - 100%
Trebbiano, Gioia - Trebbiano/Maraschino sparkling blend and Kiddush
Hashem Cellars Syrah 2004. And, with a whole world of innovative kosher
wines to explore, the list will keep growing - there will be much more
to come!!
