This week I chose a wine that has been available on KosherWine.com for a little more than a year called Le Mourre L’Isle Côtes Du Rhône. Even though this isn’t a new wine, it shouldn’t be left out of my Weekly Wine Reflection. In fact, I feel like it deserves to be at the top of my list. It has created some buzz on mykerem.com http://tiny.cc/OS4NQ, listed as a best selling Kosher wine http://tiny.cc/EiBoD and also made our top 10 wines of 2009 here at KosherWine.com http://tiny.cc/DLgwl . So what you might ask makes this wine so worthy? Well, I decided to find out.
First I should note that this wine greatly benefits from a little decanting. Let this wine breath a little bit and it will unlock the full fruitiness of this wine both on the nose and palate. After swirling it around for a bit in my glass, I got a great aroma of fresh berries. Taking it in one more time, I found a wonderful bouquet of cherries with a nice earthy aroma.
This dark ruby blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre was exactly what I was hoping for. The Grenache gave it a nice chewy, fruity quality while the Mouvèdre softened the wine while giving it a nice structure. At first I tasted black cherries and black berries but I knew I was missing more which made me want to take another sip. And each sip did bring more characteristics of spice and fruit with a smooth finish. This wine was great!
I always love a great French wine because it brings me back to the days when I studied abroad in Paris. For a moment when I was sipping this wine, I thought I was back there.
Since this wine has made our top ten list, I know I have fans out there that have tried it. Let me know your thoughts and get other fans out there to try Le Mourre L’Isle Côtes Du Rhône too!
Sincerely,
Krystan
