Just in the last few days a number of Israeli wines with 15% alcohol levels have caught my attention. Here's the list so far:
Yarden Merlot 2004, 15%
Yarden Katzrin Red 2004, 15%
Galil Avivim 2005, 15%
Galil Viognier 2006, 15%
Actually, I knew about the Galil Viognier's high alcohol content before. When I was gathering information about this wine for a newsletter I asked Micha Viaadia about the alcohol content, he said it was because they needed to leave the viognier on the vine an extra long time to develop varietal character.
Yarden Ortal Merlot also has 15% alcohol.
