Olive oil produced by Israeli wineries

I've heard about a number of Israeli wineries bottling their own olive oil. Two questions:
1) why don't we see any of this in the US?
and
2) Would you as a consumer pay a premium price for this?

Me, I say yes, I would pay a premium for a quality artisan olive oil from a place I'm familiar with.

I am actively sourcing Israeli olive oils and honey to import now...I am open to suggestion of small premium producers from Forum members.

It seems like a lot of Israeli olive oils are being produced by wineries. The typical channels that Israeli wineries have to sell their wines in america deal exclusively with wine and they are not interested in olive oil. This would be my guess why we don't see much Israeli olive oil.

Along the same lines, I see many great gourmet food items for sale at wineries that I don't see in the states. One thing I can think of is Tishbi jams. I also think that there just isn't enough interest by american consumers.

Scott, I agree that I would like to hear from other consumers if they are interested in purchasing Israeli olive oil or other gourment foods, even if there was a cost premium.

In Buffalo NY we don't have a lot in the kosher specialty items. There is an Israeli brand of olive oil (not from a winery) carried in the kosher section of the supermarket. I didn't know about the Tishbi jams until we saw them in Jerusalem, so the lack of interest may simply be because consumers don't know about the products. I would be interested to know if the jams and olive oils are sold in the NYC or Baltimore areas.

Richard, out of curiosity are you talking to any wineries about the olive oil, or is it strictly olive oil producers? It seems like olive groves usually go hand in hand with vineyards in the Mediterranean, not just in Israel but also in southern France and Italy. When I was gathering info on a kosher Cote du Rhone, on the winery stat sheet it was listed "we have such and such acres vineyards, and such and such acres olive groves on the property".
