Yarden Muscat 2006

Sweet and Aromatic
The wine has a really intense nose, very aromatic, almost want to say extravagantly aromatic.  I was getting honey, apricot, a little botrytis, orange peel.  Exotic aroma.  The palate is very sweet, but the body is much lighter than I was expecting (which is a good thing).  The palate struck me as less exotic than the nose, with more straight forward but still delicious flavors of honey and tropical fruit, with a lingering aftertaste.  Overall a very appealing sweet wine.

Ella Valley Vineyards Merlot 2003

Not a New World Fruit Bomb
This is a merlot with understated fruit and an interesting smokey/bitter component on the finish. On the palate is black cherry, hints of bell pepper, with some hints of smoked meat on the finish. As it opened up it gained some minty notes and hints of tobacco. It has a nice texture, with fine tannins, but the alcohol is definitely felt. I would brand it more of a European style Merlot than New World, except for the alchohol level. Overall very nice merlot that is not too ripe and with some interesting, not unpleasant bitter components.

Ella Valley Vineyards Syrah 2006

Different than expected and interesting
Really dark color, inky. Very smooth, refined tannin, intense plum flavor that morphs on the palate, but not super-fruity or sweet at all, finishes with some nice smokiness, approaching a smoked meat flavor on the finish. A little chocolate, too, it’s hard to pin down everything, it has an interesting flavor. Different from the Yarden Syrah. I think this would work well with certain foods, and it’s something I could sit down with a glass of and enjoy. It’s different than I expected, I wonder how this would taste with more acidity? Recommended.
